ALL ROADS for those attending the Cycling Ireland Annual General Meeting which take place this Saturday (10th November) leading to the Shearwater Hotel, Ballinasloe, Co Galway.
Make sure you read the terms and reference for those who will be in Co. Galway as itemised in the DIARY.
PLEASE NOTE that delegates are requested to arrive prior to 10:45am to facilitate the order of business.
Hopefully all attending will savour the moment in acknowledging the work of Geoff Liffey as CEO of the organisation as he vacates the chair after ten years of dedicated service to the sport that we all love so much.
Normally people don’t get the opportunity of a face to face meeting as Geoff delivers his final presentation.
For those who take him on board as worker and colleague, they’ll be happy campers!
Aside of that, elections will be the fore as the President of the organisation Ciaran McKenna oversees the AGM.
As we are all aware! Accidents do happen! Unfortunately for Mark Miller he was hit by a truck and is in need of your help. If all of us in the cycling community and afield can help his cause! See article concerning Mark’s accident as he competed in the 100 mile time trail during the summer!
Cyclo-Cross is very much to the fore this weekend with Scott Orwell Wheelers adding to the winter sport which is certainly gaining momentum this year.

Mark Millers Story
On 10th June 2018 whilst competing in the Ulster 100mile Time Trial I was hit from behind by an SUV, amongst many serious injuries I broke my spine in 4 places and severed spinal cord at level T12 which left me paralysed from the waist down. Following the care of the emergency services , the wonderful staff at Royal Victoria Hospital and Musgrave Park spinal unit and the support of my amazing wife, family and friends I survived and after just 3 months discharged to continue my rehab at home and almost 5 months post accident whilst I have a long journey ahead I am looking forward and planning a return to competition as a Para-triathlete one day and a return to Ironman racing.

In the process I would like to raise money to support Spinal research so that one day people can walk away from such injuries with a much greater quality of life than what is currently possible.

Updates via Instagram

Spinal Research is the UK’s leading charity funding medical research around the world to develop effective treatments for paralysis caused by spinal cord injury. Every year 1,000 people in the UK and Ireland are paralysed following an injury to their spinal cord. We receive no government funding and rely entirely on the support of the public to raise funds for our research. Because of the efforts of our supporters, we have funded innovative medical research that has achieved a number of ground breaking changes in the field.

Preview: A Series of Two Horse Races

David Conroy, back from racing in Spain, usualy is not seen after he gets the hole shot. Can Robin Seymour, unencumbered by a course setup, keep with the fast starting Conroy? Paul “Squeek” O’Reilly should be in the mix too.

In the M40s, Evan Ryan and Sean Ó Tuathail are expected to battle it out for the 1st Unplaced M40. They are usually able to stay with Robin, until the later laps when Robin opens the taps.

In the M50s, John Doris and Michael Jordan are starting along side eachother. David Lawless might not be too far behind on the grid.

In the Juniors, Sean Nolan will be aiming to win that category. He’ll have Callaghan, Doolan and Ennis to keep him honest.

Closer to home, first Scott Orwell Wheeler, will be contested by Eoin Ahern, Ronan O’Flynn, Eric Downey, Paul Kane and Callum O’Toole. Eoin has been improving all season, and the climbing nature of the course should suit him. Paul Kane kept Eoin under pressure in Kilternan and could also be aided by the climbing and his bike handling. The long straights could play into the hands of Ronan O’Flynn.

Gridded Riders are Numbers 101-115.

B-Race – Sponsored by BikeFittingIreland Aidan Hammond

Preview: B-attle Lines

The top two ranked B-Riders in the Bike7 SuperCross Cup will start alongside each other on the grid, Fearghal and Lukasz. This will be a preview of the upcoming race in Russborough House. Alan Killian should also be factored into the equation too.

There are many more Senior riders in the B-Race, so luck and track positioning will be a factor. The Travel Weary, Valdis Andersons, and, former Scott Orwell Wheeler, Marcin Worbel cannot be discounted for the Overall victory.

In the masters categories, the gridded M40s and M50 will have plenty of pressure applied to them as they battle for the

In the M60s, Orwell’s Lloyd Moore got the better of EPIC MTB’s Terry O’Neill, in Greystones. Can Lloyd keep ahead of the serial M60 Prize Winner?

In the U16s, the climbing course should suit, club man, Ruairi Byrne, if he can have a clean run. The other U16s will keep Ruairi under pressure.

In the U14s, Orwell’s Ryan Fox, will have some competition, but he should prevail.

First Scott Orwell Wheeler will be a tight one. Barry Mooney has got some good results, but a hard few weeks of event preparation might’ve put a dent in his hopes. Michael Hanley and Barry O’Brien will have a tall order to resist Valdis onslaught.

Gridded Riders are Numbers 201-215.

Preview: How do you Solve a Problem like Klaudia?

Klauida Bajolek will be hard to beat. The Scott/ rider has been super strong all season, with winning Bike7 SuperCross Cup and Ulster CycloCross Series outings. It might be a case that only a mechanical can prevent her. She’ll have to decide how hard to go from the gun, in case she needs something in reserve to recover from a setback.

Niamh Stephens had winning returns in Navan and Oldcastle this season. The TC Racing rider should be solidly in contention for a podium.

Orwell’s Aishling O’Connor and, former Orwell member, Aideen Keenan, shared the podium in Oldcastle, with O’Connor getting the higher placing.

Scott Orwell’s Roches and Reillys will be battling for the three Youth and Junior podiums on offer. They won’t have it all their own way though.

In the Masters category, Mary Dawson, of Bray Wheelers, will be favourite. She’ll be facing competition from EPIC MTBs, Tara Kerins. Mary will be hoping that her front row grid spot will give her the opportunities to choose a better line through the first two corners.

Gridded Riders are Numbers 1-10.
