by Tommy Campbell

Definitely, 2018 will go down in the records of Cycling Ireland. When out of the blue as far as I was concerned, that the CEO of Cycling Ireland would leave the organisation for greener pastures? Thankfully he has his hand on the wheel at the moment but only for the next couple of weeks. In my eyes!? In time, when the dust has settled as it will do quickly, a new CEO will be in place. So if I had the power and authority I would be calling GEOFF the Million Euro man. Not bad for a gent who brought in, to the organisation somewhere in the region of 14 million euros! No! that is not a misprint?

If you read his report to the AGM, there was not a scintilla of annoyance in his report. He certainly is acting as a true professional. He’ll be a hard act to follow and I would be requesting odds with Paddy Power as to the time, they would offer on the heir to last in the hot seat. (I’ll give you the length of time by submitting a stamp addressed envelope). It would be ideal if you read CEO’s report as listed in AGM handbook which has gone into great detail by those who got a copy.

Now back to the AGM last Saturday in Ballinasloe.

It would be totally out of character if I did not subscribe to the imitable Jack Watson who has retired from the Board. If I along with others were to list out the work and dedication that he gave to cycling over the years, it would be best seller warts and all.

Murphy’s Surveyors/ Killcullen CC’s Liam Walker made a see through present to Jack for his on behalf of cycling both at home and abroad.

I singled out two items in particular. Brian Nugent from TRACK and John Malony from Leisure.

Both were very interesting. It was clinical as far as track was concerned from John it was from the heart with his hands held out. I’ll say one thing as far as John was concerned he didn’t break the hour with his contribution. One, to watch for the future?

And where did you read it first!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brian was treating his brief in CYCLES (years) and Brendan was in the here and now. Of course if you were on twitter or facebook, Brian’s attitude was like cold turkey.

Where as John’s attitude, it was bodies by the thousands on bikes.

DON’T hesitate if you are looking for information about the AGM in detail. All is revealed on www.cyclingireland.ie.

Incidentally I was a delegate for Bray Wheelers CC with a brief to query the meeting through the good offices of the President. I did meet him at the end of the AGM and listed the concerns of not alone a problem for the ‘Wheelers’ but could go nationwide if not next season but beyond.
