Conn McDunphy formerly of Stagg Cycles Lucan CC and now of the professional outfit Holdsworth, blazed a trail this morning when he recorded the fastest time in the annual Noel and Kieran Hammond Memorial TT over a distance of 32.5 kilometres on the outskirts of the village Roundwood in Co. Wicklow (Garden of Ireland).
He certainly took no prisoners in his win against seasoned operators Neil Delahaye of Fixx Roulers and Greg Swinand of Viner-Caremark-Pactimo.
Conditions for the event were superb on a course which took the competitors on a course which to say the least was undulating and traffic free. McDunphy was loud in praise for the organisation, “It was a testing course, with little or no traffic to interrupt your concentration, particularly when you are racing the clock. Little or no wind was a bonus, sadly I missed beating the record held by Ian Richardson of the UCD team, but a win is a win. Full credit to the organisation for organising and into the bargain on a day when the sun shine brightly,” said Conn who by all accounts will acquit himself in the professional ranks in the years ahead. Who knows that he’ll be back next year to get the record at least a former winner in Greg Swinand!
